I am a huge enthusiast when it comes to anything within the automotive industry and every year look forward to my local car rally, Diamond Rally. For this year’s Diamond Rally I was fortunate to have been lent Genesis Canada’s newest SUV, the GV70 to test out for a week.
The GV70 gives me a TON of space without feeling it was too big to maneuver and, overall, I really enjoyed it. One of the key features I look at in any vehicle is to see what the stock sound system sounds like and the bass I was pumping from the GV70 is definitely one of my favourite features.
Having 20 years of driving experience, I am very confident in my skills. Being old school 😏🤣 I do appreciate safety alerts, however, for me personally I felt like it was too much of a distraction. I’m sure it’s adjustable, but I didn’t turn it off or decrease sensitivity and it came on when cars are just driving beside me. I feel an unskilled driver may end up in an accident because it causes them to hesitate even more, and we already know how great of drivers a lot of VanCity residents can be 😏🤣
With that being said, while I didn’t love all of the security features, the camera for parking and pull out were on point.
Another feature I enjoy is that the heads-up display switches to display stations when you switch between so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road to see what channel you’re on.
One more feature I think is cool on this SUV is the summon feature so if you’re parked in too tight a spot your vehicle can come to you. I, unfortunately, didn’t get to test this and cannot report the ease of use.
The feature I did try is driver assist, which ultimately drives itself and keeps you within the lines. Look ma, no hands!
Given the price point for all the features and comfort (starting at only $49k), I will spend my money on this over a new Range Rover or other of the comparable luxury SUVs.
